It was a surprise to find a family party of these diminutive birds on a trash heap around the back of the lodge in the early afternoon. Every time a person, dog or cat walked past, they flew into the next garden so I sat quietly on the ground and waited. Fortunately, this beautiful male bird posed long enough at close range for me to take this photo.
