Black-necked Grebe

Black-necked Grebe

A further objective was to get a photo of the bird about to dive. This proved to be inordinately difficult as the time from its first move to its head being underwater was somewhat less than the one eighth of a second between frames on the camera. Today, I viewed and deleted a large number of images of the bird with its head under water and a few feathers still visible above the water. I finally got this shot which was close to what I was trying to achieve. It shows the position of the legs right at the back of the body. This gives it significant power for swimming under water.
