The drive to Tabin took us through the monoculture of oil palm plantations which cover much of Borneo and even more of Indonesia. The western desire for palm oil in a host of products has led to the destruction of much of the original tropical hardwood forests and its associated wildlife. Entering secondary growth forests, we saw some interesting wildlife again including our one and only Chestnut-breasted Malkoha, a beautiful member of the cuckoo family.
