Crimson Sunbird

Crimson Sunbird Aethopyga siparaja was seen only twice on this tour including this beautiful male at Kaeng Krachan. It is a widespread species which I have recorded additionally in Nepal, Borneo and Singapore. The photograph was taken in warm afternoon sunshine and good light. This better Crimson Sunbird photo was taken at Sepilok in Borneo.

Crimson Sunbird is a resident breeder in tropical southern Asia from India to Indonesia. This species occurs in forest and cultivated areas. It has become the unofficial national bird of Singapore.
