Golden-naped Barbet

Golden-naped Barbet

Today, we took the trail through the Timpohan Gate and on up the track in the direction of Mount Kinabalu. We saw a good selection of montane species in the forests but I’m afraid that I have no photographic records of most of them. This was either because they flew out of sight very quickly or I was too exhausted to hold the camera still. Near the entrance Gate however, we did see a Golden-naped Barbet, a high altitude Bornean endemic which we had heard calling previously. On this occasion, however, this beautiful bird was very close to the trail and partly visible through dense vegetation.
