Lesser Black-backed Gull

Lesser Black-backed Gull

Lesser Black-backed Gull is an uncommon winter visitor to Kelsey Park, Beckenham. This adult bird was photographed on the main lake near Heron Island. Lesser Black-backed Gull is a large bird with a menacing looking pale eye and huge bill. The grey on the wing varies from very light to very dark and it is sometimes difficult to separate it from the silver winged Herring Gull. One key to this is the yellow leg colour of Lesser-Black-backed Gull which is just visible in this photo.
