The picnic spot was a great place to see birds at close quarters. This male Red-collared Widowbird in full breeding plumage was very close when I photographed it. I used the technique of lying in the grass and waiting for it to walk towards me. This is a good idea for photography but can leave one with insect bites so is not necessarily to be recommended.
