Shining-blue Kingfisher adult male

This kingfisher was found on a small pond near a track. It is a species of west and west central Africa and not commonly seen in the open. It stayed towards the back of the pond but still provided good views as it was hunting for food. It appears as though the west African birds are not as brightly coloured as in other parts of Africa, as this photo would suggest.
