Short-beaked Echidna

Short-beaked Echidna

I was delighted to see and be able to photograph this Short-beaked Echidna in the open. We had previously seen one in the Brisbane Ranges National Park but it had dived into a bush so that only its spines were visible. The Tasmanian subspecies setosus has many less spines. This is an egg laying mammal of the order monotreme and it is the only member of the genus Tachyglossus – source: Wikipedia.
