We had spent an hour the previous evening at a wildlife reserve in the shadow of the football stadium built in Polokwane for a World Cup match in 2010. Short-clawed Lark was another 100% certainty which we were unable to find. We therefore checked into an hotel next to a casino near another potential site for this bird. We arrived at this site in the early morning pre-dawn light and pouring rain and decided to have breakfast. Returning to the site a little later when the rain had stopped, we were delighted to hear and see five of these uncommon and narrow range larks singing. The photo is not great my only excuse for adding it to this site is that it is not often photographed and I’ll probably never have another opportunity.
