An interesting thing which I discovered on my first day in Papua New Guinea is that every piece of land is owned by someone. This means that you can’t wander off into the forest without permission. It is also the main reason why so much of the forest is intact unlike most of the other large islands in this part of the world where logging is or has been intensive and the original hardwood forests have succumbed to an oil palm monoculture.
