Dark-backed Sibia

Dark-backed Sibia Heterophasia melanoleuca was a common bird in the Doi Inthanon National Park with a total of 33 sightings. It was not an easy species to photograph however and this rather poor photo in dense woodland was the best that I could manage.

It is a species in the family of Laughingthrushes Leiothrichidae. In former times it was included with Black-headed Sibia, H. desgodinsi. Together with most other sibias, it is sometimes separated in the genus Malacias. It is found in China, Myanmar and Thailand. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
