The adult Shoebill was some thirty metres away from the nest looking for food in the swamps. Shoebills tend to have two eggs but raise only a single juvenile. It was an incredible experience to be so close to Shoebills in their natural habitat. By this time, the rubber boots were full of water and I fell into the swamp several times on the return journey through the narrow channel cut in the papyrus. Fortunately, my camera survived the ordeal and we arrived back at our vehicle in time for a late lunch.
