We took the morning train from Zermatt to Geneva with a change from the narrow gauge mountain railway to the mainline at Visp. Our hotel was a few minutes walk from Lake Geneva and the Jet d’eau and close to where I had worked for three months in 1974. In 1974, I didn’t know a Sparrow from a Starling and therefore had no idea what birds, if any, we would find near the lake. The birds which we did find among the expensive yachts on Lake Geneva was a real surprise therefore starting with a Great Crested Grebe family.
