White-breasted Woodswallows

White-breasted Woodswallows

We spent several hours at Virarata in poor light for photography before returning to the airport to catch our flight to New Britain, the largest of Papua New Guinea’s offshore islands. There was still no plane by early evening and we were informed that there would be no flight today. There followed several more hours while our tour guide tried to negotiate a deal with the airline for accommodation for the extra night in Port Moresby finally securing rooms for us in the aptly named Hideaway Hotel. It was there that I received a message to say that my return flight from Port Moresby to Brisbane had been changed and could I contact my travel company in London. Unfortunately, with no working mobile phone and a ten hour time change, that was not possible. The story of the next few days is reported in the New Britain 2012 section.
