It was a beautiful sunny day at Oare Marshes and it was a real pleasure to see large flocks of Brent Geese. A few birds were feeding near the footpath at high tide and this enabled me to get as close as I have ever been to a Brent Goose. This is the first photo of a Brent Goose that I have posted on the site. The IOC have named Brent Goose, the generally used named in Europe, as Brant Goose by which it is more commonly known in Northern America. Reference to Collins Bird Guide suggests in fact that this is the subspecies nigricans otherwise known as Black Brant but I would be happy to receive advice about this.
