Green Woodpecker

This adult female Green Woodpecker was feeding on the lawn in my garden yesterday with four Jays. Green Woodpecker is a fairly common bird in this area but more often heard than seen. It was pouring with rain and the soft lawn provided ideal conditions for a Green Woodpecker to probe for food in the soft earth. The photograph was taken through the window in very poor light. Green Woodpecker is a difficult bird to photograph because it flies as soon as it perceives any movement.
