Zermatt has several large flocks of House Sparrows and it is a very common species in the town itself. On looking more closely one day, I noticed that some were Italian Sparrows and this one photographed in a local park looks like a juvenile male. Italian Sparrow was thought to be a hybrid of House Sparrow and Spanish Sparrow until recently but some authorities now consider it to be a separate species. Italian Sparrow and House Sparrows can be found in mixed flocks in the southern Alps. Source: Collins Bird Guide.
