Autumn Crocus also known as Meadow Saffron or Naked Lady is one of the most common wild flowers in the meadows close to Zermatt and can be seen easily along the tracks in the direction of Schwarzsee. The name “naked lady” comes from the fact that the flowers emerge from the ground long after the leaves have died back. Autumn Crocus is found widely across Europe from Portugal to Ukraine and is deadly poisonous with symptoms resembling that of arsenic poisoning. Source: Wikipedia
