Lesser Sand Plover Charadrius mongolus was another well represented species at Pakthale today. This bird was one of several found at Laenpak Bia either in or flying over shallow water. This is another species with a large world range.
Lesser Sand Plover breeds above the tree line in the Himalayas and discontinuously across to bare coastal plains in north-eastern Siberia, with the Mongolian Plover subspecies C.m.mongolus in the eastern part of the range. It nests in a bare ground scrape, laying three eggs. This species is strongly migratory, wintering on sandy beaches in east Africa, south Asia and Australasia.
