Thick-billed Green Pigeon

A Thick-billed Green Pigeon Treron curvirostra party seen at the top of a dead tree in the early morning in the Kaeng Krachan National Park. The birds in the photo are all females but there was a male lower down the tree and out of this photo. Although the photo was taken at distance, some of the key features of this species can be seen including the thick, red based greenish bill, blue eye ring and grey crown. Male birds are similar but show maroon upper wings.

There are currently two sub species: T. c. nipalensis and T.c.curvirostra. The latter being restricted to South of Thailand. (I am not sure which subspecies is in the photo / jc)

The species is widespread and found across Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam.
