Asian Brown Flycatcher

Asian Brown Flycatcher Muscicapa dauurica was only seen on two days of the tour with a total of four birds. There are a number of similar species in south east Asia but the key identification features of this species can be seen in this photo despite the bird being partially hidden behind a branch: brownish grey head and upper parts; pale under parts; pinkish base to lower mandible; prominent white eye ring and pale fringes to the coverts and tertials.

Asian Brown Flycatcher is an insectivorous species which breeds in Japan, eastern Siberia and the Himalayas. It is migratory and winters in tropical southern Asia from southern India and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia.
