Black-faced Prinia

Black-faced Prinia

The taxonomy of this species still seems to be in some doubt. Black-faced Prinia Prinia melanops is currently split from Banded Prinia P. bairdii by IOC but is noted as a possible lump. This is the highland form of which the race obscura is found above 1500 metres in montane forests of the Albertine Rift. The photo shows the dark face and throat whereas Banded Prinia, found in the lowlands of west Africa, has barring up to the bill.
