Papua New Guinea and its islands must be Kingfisher heaven based on the number of species we saw (20). The Paradise Kingfishers are very attractive forest dwelling members of this large family and very difficult to see. One is reliant on the skill of a local guide finding a line of sight through dense jungle. In this case, the guide took myself and another member of the party to have a second try at seeing this particular bird and after making our own track through the forest, we had outstanding views of the perched bird for about fifteen minutes. The grainy photos are as a result of the low light in the forest and the need to use ISO 6400.
