Black Currawong

This was likely to be the most difficult to see Tasmanian endemic as these birds move in summer to higher ground and forested areas to breed. However, we found ourselves surrounded by a flock of them in the National Park. They came so close that I was unable to get a photograph of the whole bird. This portrait does however give some idea of what must be one of the most frightening beaks in the avian kingdom especially to its small mammal and reptile prey species.
