Caspian Gull

Caspian Gull

Caspian Gull is a relatively recent split from Herring Gull. It is a species which can often be seen at Dungeness although its normal range is Central and Eastern Europe. This is a distant photo which shows several gull species: adult and juvenile Herring Gull; Lesser Black-backed Gull; Great Black-backed Gull and Caspian Gull as well as Cormorants. The Caspian Gull is in the front middle of the photo and is thought to be a second year bird. Caspian Gull has several differences from Herring Gull including the bill structure, bill colour and leg colour which can be seen in the photo. The longer legs and different head shape are harder to see in the photo. Further visits to Dungeness are required by me in an attempt to get a better photo.
