This Collared Owlet Glaucidium brodiei was calling during an evening owl and nightjar watch and was located in a small tree but mostly hidden behind leaves and branches. It was photographed with a hand held camera in torch light and unfortunately, both eyes were not visible at the same time. This was the only Collared Owlet which we saw on the trip and the first that I have ever photographed which is why it appears on the website.
Collared Owlet is the smallest owl in Asia and is a widespread species being found in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is temperate forests.
