Flavescent Bulbul

Flavescent Bulbul

Flavescent Bulbul Pycnonotus flavescens was seen on 5 separate days of our tour and was one of the more common bulbul species. Apparently, this species normally forages in bushes and trees so it may be unusual to see one perched in the open on a cable. The photo shows that it has short wings and a very short primary projection therefore I would assume that it is not a long distant migrant. Having searched through various references, I can find no mention of this species as a migrant.

Flavescent Bulbul is a species of songbird in the Pycnonotidae family. Its name comes from flavescent, a yellowish colour. It is found in Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. The natural habitat of the Flavescent Bulbul is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
