Soon after arriving at Schwarzsee, a Golden Eagle flew overhead and circled before finding a thermal and soaring to well over 3,000 metres above sea level. During the next few days, I saw several Golden Eagles in the environs of the Matterhorn. The photo shows some of the key identification features of Golden Eagle including the rounded tail with a length similar to the width of the wing, the narrowing of the wing where it meets the body, the pale wing panels highlighted in the bright sunlight and the barred tail which indicates that it is an adult bird.
