Much of the time on this tour, I struggled to see and even more to photograph smaller passerines such as flycatchers and warblers in trees and bushes. It came as a surprise therefore to find a series of photos of this male Hainan Blue Flycatcher Cyornis hainanus perched in a bush. We saw this species on three occasions, seeing only five birds in total.
Hainan Blue Flycatcher has a wide range in south east Asia including much of Myanmar, Thailand and the Malay Peninsula, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and southern China. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
