Little Cormorant Microcarbo niger was seen at Pak Thale in the area of the duck ponds. This bird is in breeding plumage indicated by the silvery streaks on its face around the eye. It was standing close to our vehicle and photographed through the window. Little Cormorant has a range of habitats including freshwater wetlands, estuaries and mangroves and is resident in South-east Asia.
It is found across India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and lowland Nepal. It is also found in parts of Burma, Thailand, Laos, Indonesia. It inhabits wetlands, ranging from small village ponds to large lakes, and sometimes tidal estuaries.
