Madeira Firecrest

Madeira Firecrest

High up in the montane area of the island of Madeira, I was walking along a levada, a man made water course. I heard birds calling in the vegetation along the levada and stood with my camera waiting for one to appear. After a few minutes, a few birds came closer and I observed that they were Madeira Firecrest, recently split by several taxonomic authorities and a species endemic to Madeira. This particular Madeira Firecrest posed with its crest showing well allowing me to take several photos with my old digital camera.
