Northern Shoveler

Northern Shoveler

Northern Shoveler is often seen on lakes in South London but is an infrequent visitor to Kelsey Park. This bird is an adult male in full breeding plumage which spent some time on the main lake hiding under vegetation in the area of Heron Island. This made it difficult to photograph so I waited near the Heron viewpoint and was fortunate that the bird decided to take a nap and floated in my direction. A passing Coot disturbed it and it became a little more active. This is only the second occasion that I have been able to photograph a Northern Shoveler in Kelsey Park.
