Orange-breasted Trogon

Orange-breasted Trogon

This male Orange-breasted Trogon Harpactes oreskios was calling inside the forest. Although we found and had good views of the bird, it was perched vertically above our heads in a dense area of forest. This is the best photo that I managed to take which shows the wings, upper tail, lower breast and belly well but only part of its left eye and bill.

Orange-breasted Trogon is found in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam and is classified as least concern. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, humid, lower-to-middle elevation evergreen forests, swampy forests, open dry forests, bamboo forests, thin tree jungles, and sometimes among clumps of trees near forests.
