Saw-wort

Saw-wort

I like the combination of colour of the butterfly on Saw-wort near Findeln at around 2,300 metres above sea level. Saw-wort is a native of Europe with a thistle like flower head. It grows in moist soil, full sun to part shade, and grows up to one metre tall. The butterfly is a Copper of the family Lycaenidae and is looking rather worn and ragged and hence it is not possible to identify it to species level. Source: Wikipedia
