Spot-flanked Barbet is an east African endemic. It is shown perched in bright sunlight and the yellow eye is not at all obvious. This is possibly because it is a female bird which is reported to have brown or reddish brown eyes. The race radcliffei is found in Rwanda. Source: Birds of Africa Vol III, pp. 451-452.
