White-headed Bulbul Cerasophila thompsoni was recorded on two occasions in Doi Inthanon National Park with ten birds being seen in total. On this occasion, two birds only were seen from the road standing in a bush five or so metres away. They spent time preening and we were able to watch them for a few minutes before they flew away. Some of the main identification features of this species can be seen in the photograph: the pure white head and throat; a grey body with a clear demarcation of colour between the white of the throat and grey of the body; reddish pink bill, legs and feet; black lores and a yellow ring around the eye. The rufous vent is not apparrent in the photo.

It is found in Myanmar and western Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is generally resident with some evidence of post-breeding down slope movement arriving in numbers in winter. It is not globally threatened and is locally fairly common in its relatively small range; e.g. common in Karen Hills in Myanmar and quite common in N Thailand during the winter months.
